Lisbon, Portugal: August 29th to September 5, 2025

August 30 to September 5, 2025. This was mine and Abe’s first trip outside of North America, and it is a trip we will forever remember.

While we were here, we also celebrated our one year wedding anniversary, which made the trip even more special. Exploring the world with my new husband was something I will cherish forever, and getting to experience a new country together made our anniversary that much sweeter.

The castles were like nothing we had ever seen before. We were completely in awe of the architecture, the history, and how different everything felt from home.

We also discovered one of Portugal’s specialties, pastel de nata, and it has left me with a craving that I’m not sure I’ll ever shake. They were so good.

We also got to try surfing for the first time, which was such a cool experience. It was definitely harder than it looked, but I am so glad we gave it a try. It was one of those experiences that was challenging, fun, and completely new to both of us.

There is also an interesting detail behind one of the photos in this collection. A few days into our trip, there was a tragic tram accident in Lisbon on September 3, 2025. The photo included here was actually taken a day or two before the accident and shows the tram as we saw it while exploring the city. At the time, we had no idea that shortly afterward it would be involved in such a tragic event.

Looking back, this trip holds so many memories for us. Our first time travelling outside of North America, our first wedding anniversary abroad, trying new foods, attempting to surf, exploring castles, and simply experiencing Portugal together.

It was the beginning of something I hope we continue doing for many years to come: exploring the world together.
